SKUNK SMELL IN HOUSE AND ON FURNITURE REMOVAL

This smell is capable of permeating your whole house and if your dog rubs up against anything well now you can consider that area contaminated as well as the scent will linger on for days, weeks and even months.

People often say to wash a dog in tomato juice but that has actually been proven as some sort of urban myth.

There are many methods of odor removal for skunk spray from using baking soda to wash your clothes, even vinegar, to using bleach to sanitize your floors or wall and even opening your windows to air out the house.

However, here is one spray that can be used in the home on fabrics, carpets and surfaces

Other remedies include bathing your dog in a mixture of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and dish soap.

This method is actually proven to be somewhat effective although the issue for me is that hydrogen peroxide if ingested will induce vomiting.

Also, if you have a dog that has dark hair your dog will end up with lighter colored hair as hydrogen peroxide has bleaching qualities.

Now I know that the sense of urgency to remove the offending smell is the top priority and so here is a recipe for that.

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE SHAMPOO FOR DOG SPRAYED BY A SKUNK

1 Bottle of hydrogen peroxide 16 oz.

2 Tablespoons Baking soda

1 teaspoon Dawn Dish Soap

Mix together and use immediately.

(Note: If your dog got sprayed in the eyes rinse the eyes immediately with ONLY water, so you can flush out the oil. Cold water has a soothing effect.)

You will want to rinse your dog with water and then pour this solution on the dog and lather him up very well.

Allow the solution to soak into the fur and permeate and marinate so that it has a chance to neutralize the odor.

BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET THIS IN YOUR DOGS EYES, EARS, NOSE OR MOUTH.

Hydrogen peroxide if licked up by your dog will make it vomit as it is a gastric irritant.

Rinse your dog and then follow with your regular shampoo and towel dry as usual.

After you rinse and dry your dog you will notice that the smell is still lingering and you will want to have another back-up.
